SPANISH STORYTIME AND CRAFTS
TUESDAYS

AGES: up to 4 years old + parent
MAX CLASS SIZE: 10 children (includes 1 adult per child)
Come to toddler “Mami y yo” (Mommy and Me) time, geared toward families of young children up to age 4 who will enjoy being introduced to the Spanish language through story time, singing, and a fun art activity.
This will be a great chance to get to spend quality time with your child, and learn a new language at the same time! Win, win fun!
All children have the ability to learn multiple languages, even children with delayed development or with different abilities.
SCHEDULE
April 8
Lama Llama Colores by Anna Dewdney
Families will use food items representing the new vocabulary colors in the book, for example: Azul (Blue):Blueberries, to create a design on a paper plate. After everyone shares their design with the class, we will all enjoy the food in class.
April 15
Peppa En El Espacio (Peppa in Space) by Neville Astley and Mark Baker
Families will create a space theme on large construction paper using white paint and round sponge brushes, and some precut stars. Glitter will be added for extra sparkle. They will also glue a precut picture of Peppa as an astronaut.
April 22
Ven A Mi Casa (Come to my House) by Dr. Seuss
Families will create a collage of a house using several color construction paper, scissors and glue. Watercolors will be used to create detail for the background.
April 29
Caperucita Roja (Little Red Riding Hood) by Amanda Enright
Families will decorate a pastelitos (cupcake) using white frosting, food coloring, and sprinkles, like the pastelitos for abuela (grandma) in Caperucita Roja’s basket.
May 6
De Colores (Of Colors) Translated by Patty Rodriguez and Ariana Stein
Families will print flowers on large tag board using cut paper towel rolls, and dipping into different color temperas. once the flower prints are finished, they will add the stems using green tempera paint and a brush.
May 13
Quiero a mi mama porque…I love my mommy because… by Laurel Porter-Gaylord
Mami Eres la Mas Dulce ( Mommy You are the Sweetest)
Families will glue a triangle shape on a piece of tag board and make criss cross lines using brown tempera sticks. Mixing tempera colors with white to crate a pastel shade of that colors, children will dip their fingers and fill an ice scream scoop shape (round) with their fingerprints on top of the cone.
All materials provided, including special clay specific for sculptures.

Miss Mili Mendola is a Native Spanish speaker born in Peru, South America, and is a newcomer to St. Simon’s Island where she resides with her husband, and son, who is a Senior at Frederica Academy. They also spend their time attending their four dogs walking them around this beautiful island!
Mili is a member of Glynn Visual Art center where she has taken several clay building classes. She also paints pet portraits and other subjects by commission. She is a former art teacher with 25 years experience teaching in Public and Private elementary schools of Florida and South Carolina, and also has experience teaching Spanish to grades K-8. Since moving to Georgia, she has been very involved with homeschool families in our area, and is really loving this aspect of her life!
